SHAUN IN THE RING

Shaun...the fixer of my broken heart. When Shadow passed away, Shaun's mother was pregnant, though his breeder hadn't wanted to share that wonderful news with me in the midst of my heartbreak. The day Shadow crossed the bridge, I asked Janie (Nuttree Great Danes) to give me some good news. She told me that Sydney was pregnant. I was thrilled for her, though getting another Great Dane after losing such a significant soul as Shadow was the last thing on my mind. As I worked through the pain, Janie sent me puppy pictures as she did for the years we'd known each other.

Something hit me when I saw his first picture with his eyes open - this was one "ugly" puppy. He looked so mad, but knowing how wonderful Janie's pups are, I knew he would be as sweet as all the Nuttrees I've had.

FIRST SIGHT - EYES JUST OPENED

With the loss only weeks behind me, I kept trying to talk myself out of getting another Great Dane, but when I would look on Janie's website at his photos as he was growing, there would be an unmistakable smile that wouldn't go away.

SHAUN AT DAY 40

Friends at work (including my boss!) told me that Shaun was The One. I knew it in my heart, but I kept fighting it with my heartbreak.

I went to visit Janie, Mel, and the pups when they were 5 weeks old. I had pick male, so everyone was waiting to see who would be mine. Because this was a St. Patrick's Day birth and the theme with an Irish theme, I decided his name would be Shane. As Survivor (TV show) fans, we all joked about changing Shane's name to SHAUN because in that particular season, one of the characters was named Shane, and he was not a nice guy.... hence, SHAUN it was.

LOOK WHO'S "CRASHED" ON MY LAP
I spent two days with Janie and Mel videotaping pups and just having fun. As I love pups, they all were a bundle of joy. However, one amazing thing happened that changed my life... As I was taping all of the pups running along the lawn, I called out "Shaun" - my Shaun came running. On the video you can hear me joking to Janie and Mel that they must have set this up. The next day, the same thing happened - Shaun came running - and he was the only one to come running as he did.

SHAUN COMES HOME!

Shaun came home with me at 9 weeks old, and he has been my sweetheart ever since.

One of Shaun's favorite games was playing "Big Bad Woof" under the futon - yes , he actually fit under the futon!  He'd run and hide under there and bark and whine until I went to find him.  When I actually would "find" him, he'd begin growling and sounding so ferocious.

SHAUN, THE "BIG BAD WOOF"

SHAUN AT 4 MONTHS

Shaun had a brief career in the show ring in 2009. In a short period of time, he earned 3 points with handler Nichole Conneen. As showy as he could be, Shaun prefers to be at home right next to Mom and with his girls Rosie and Haley, so he retired in 2010.  His best elder girl, Rosie, passed away in March 2010

2010: SHAUN AND ROSIE (Rosie was 10 1/2)

2010: SHAUN AND HALEY "MEASURING TEETH"

I should mention that Shaun is one really smart boy! He can open doors from any direction.  Here's the first time he opened a door to let himself out:
